Can Canes Stay Undefeated against Syracuse?

The Cardiac Canes kept their undefeated streak alive with another last-second victory. The Miami Hurricanes (5-0, 3-0 ACC) bested the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets (3-2, 2-1 ACC) 25-24 at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida. It was a highly contested match between the two Coastal Division foes. Fortunately, for the Hurricanes, a final game-winning drive put them ahead and into first place of the Coastal Division.

With under two minutes remaining, the Canes began picking at the Georgia Tech defense. Using bubble screens as an effective way to move the ball against the Yellow Jackets’ relaxed coverage helped thrust them within field goal range. Disaster almost struck, however, as an inopportune penalty pushed Miami back near the 50-yard line, erasing any chance of a long field goal. That’s when Darrell Langham, now famous for his game-winning touchdown catch to lift Miami over rival Florida State, worked his magic yet again. On fourth and 10, Miami quarterback Malik Rosier heaved a ball Langham’s way. Sandwiched between two defenders, a cornerback and safety looking to intervene, the ball was swatted by a defender, but Langham wouldn’t be denied. As his body careened back, the ball floated into the air. He snagged the catch mid-flight and began to celebrate.

This crucial catch kept Miami’s undefeated season alive and ultimately led to the game-winning field goal by kicker Micheal Badgley. In back-to-back weeks, the Cardiac Canes prevailed in stunning fashion.

Next Saturday, at 3:30 pm, at Hard Rock Stadium, the Canes welcome their next challenger, the Syracuse Orange. Syracuse is fresh off a huge upset of the then No. 2 ranked Clemson Tigers.

Another week, another ACC showdown for the Miami Hurricanes. Can the late-game magic continue to keep the Canes perfect on the year? Will Syracuse rise up as an underdog once more? We’ll find out next Saturday as the No. 7 Miami Hurricanes take on the Syracuse Orange.
