In no particular order, we narrowed down the selection to our top 5 favorite spots to grab a bite or a drink while listening to the best live music Miami has to offer.

Ball and Chain

Ball & Chain, built in 1935 is the iconic historic landmark in the heart of Little Havana on Calle Ocho you need to experience. Whether you go during the day or for a night out, you’ll never miss out on the sounds of amazing Latin jazz or salsa. Local bands, like Suénalo and Pepe Monte, typically charm crowds with performances on the pineapple stage at the outdoor courtyard. Cocktails and Cuban cuisine are always on point at Ball and Chain also. Tapas on tapas!

Churchill’s Pub

If you’re looking for a very Miami type of bar this is not the place for you; this is dark, dirty and perfect. Cheap beer, social atmosphere, pool, vegan snacks and great local bands are what makes Churchill’s one of the best dive bars in Miami. With music ranging from ska, punk, reggae, rock and even jazz, you can be sure to catch a different band every night of the week. The bar has a couple venues: the main stage, a smaller green room in the very back and a patio which has a great, concrete graffitied space vaguely reminiscent of your schoolyard basketball court.

Le Chat Noir

Le Chat Noir is the unique yet traditional jazz bar you’ve been looking for in downtown Miami. Don’t let the upstairs bar fool you, head downstairs to the cellar where you can hear live jazz all week that includes Descarga Latin Jazz Jam Wednesdays and Friday’s Afro Cuban New Age Trio. The combination of dim lighting, music, wine, and a menu of charcuterie and cheese will make you forget you’re actually underground in South Florida.

2 South Miami Avenue. Miami, Florida 33130. (305) 377-8899

Hoy Como Ayer

This place is legit. That is, if you want a raw, authentic Cuban entertainment experience with a touch of modern twist. Live music here cannot be beat. Hoy Como Ayer is a fantastic and intimate music venue and although there’s no dance floor, it won’t stop anyone from standing up from their seat and dancing away. Make sure to catch the Spam Allstars on Thursday’s for the ultimate reggae, latin, funk, soul, afro beat infused show that is sure to bring a good time to any who are lucky to attend.
