Kicking off 2017 with an explosion of creativity, The Underline, with support from ArtPlace America, unveiled interactive art installations that stretches along the 10-mile pedestrian walkway under the Metrorail. During an artistic initiative this month, the path transformed into an artist’s playground, featuring contemporary works by four Miami-based artists: Bhakti Baxter, Naomi Fisher, Nicolas Lobo, and Augustina Woodgate.
Becoming Miami’s first linear park and living art destination, The Underline will renew the formerly desolate pedestrian walkway and bike path into a thriving space of natural habitats, inviting fitness zones, and even a blank canvas for local artists to leave their mark with murals, sculptures, installations and performance art. Throughout the month of January, the community will have the opportunity to experience public art that inspires and challenges them to be healthy, mobile and connected.
During a free launch party on January 14th below the Brickell Metrorail station, attendees participated in artist talks with Augustina Woodgate while peddling around Miami on a 16-person bicycle being broadcast live on radioee.net. UnderArt activities also included sidewalk graffiti, painting for kids and adults, dog sketches, and food tastings provided by Brickell City Centre restaurants.
