Close your eyes and clear your mind. Just for a few minutes, forget that load of laundry waiting for you at home or that deadline at work you’ve got coming up. Wipe it all out just for a few minutes and breath. Done? Okay. Now, instead of picking up another chore to do, think about the weekend. What do you have planned? Another Friday ordering in a pizza and Netflix-ing it on the couch? How about another Saturday used to run errands? Not exactly as thrilling as we’d like. Let’s change that, shall we?
For those of us locals that would like a change of pace but can’t exactly afford to get on a plane somewhere, we’ve got just the place for you. Welcome, The GroundUp Music Festival Miami! From February 10th-12th of this year, this intimate festival will be taking place at the North Beach Bandshell in Miami Beach, FL. Take a chance on exploring new music at a festival that is unlike any other. With a capacity of 1,500 people or less, the GroundUp Music Festival has changed the game in the world of music festivities. With absolutely no help from large corporations, ticketing agents or concert promoters, this celebration of music was built and created completely on the shoulders of the GroundUp Music family with The Rhythm Foundation as their production partner.
Taking these three days off from our daily routine will offer so much more than just incredible music for our ears. Open to all festival ticket holders, the hammock-filled Palm Grove Park will be extending the delectable food and libations of top local chefs without missing a moment of the melodies adjacent to the park. Just a few blocks down the beach is the official hotel of the GroundUp Music Festival, The Deauville where The Beatles had their second US appearance in the Napoleon Ballroom on the Ed Sullivan Show! The hotel will serve as the platform for the late-night jam sessions that will run all three nights from 11pm-4am for those who maybe missed out on the tunes at the beach or simply just could not get enough of it beforehand. (Separately ticketed events) Of course, for the individuals who’d like a bit more out of the experience, the VIP Lounge is at your service. The premium pass ticket holders and the festival artists as well will have the opportunity to enjoy the breathtaking views from the floor-to-ceiling glass windows and/or the shaded balconies while still enjoying the music coming from the outside.
With so many international artists joining each other on one stage, all in all, this weekend is really about the music. The festival artists will host a variety of interactive workshops, panels, and master classes in the Palm Grove Park, on the beach, or elsewhere around the campus. Artists include Snarky Puppy, who will be hosting the festival all three days, David Crosby, Charlie Hunter Trio featuring Jeff Coffin, Pedrito Martinez Group, Jake Collier and many more. Not to mention a very special guest as the festival’s Artist at Large, Esperanza Spalding who’s previously played for our dear former President Obama and the First Lady.
With the all the past and current tragedies that have turned our world exceedingly grim, it’s quite gratifying to know that we can have a weekend to turn all of that off and just inhale the optimism this music will bring to our souls. With three nights worth of mouthwatering food, ocean front views/access and a staggering soundtrack, you will be sure to fall in love with the city of Miami and everything the GroundUp Music Festival has to offer. Let’s start off 2017 making memories in a distinct way being surrounded by the beautiful people of South Florida and many international greats. General admission is $85 per day and $225 for the entire weekend. For more information, visit their website at www.festival.groundupmusic.net
