J. Wakefield Brewing is one of three breweries collaborating with Run the Jewels, the hip-hop duo of rapper/producers El-P and Killer Mike, to brew one of three versions of Panther Like a Panther. Brooklyn’s Interboro Spirits Ales and Chicago’s Pipeworks Brewing Company are also creating versions of the beer.
J. Wakefield’s version of the Panther Like a Panther will be a coffee-infused stout, fittingly using beans from the nearby Panther Coffee. It will be released early in April.
Pipeworks take, which was released on February 17, is a porter blended with bourbon barrel-aged beer. Interboro’s version, a traditional stout, will be released next week.
“To be in the same lineup with Interboro and Pipeworks is really special, and, of course, we love the music of Run the Jewels and are honored to be collaborating with them,” he says. “It’s also cool that we will be using coffee from our friends and neighbors at Panther Coffee.” said Johnathan Wakefield.
All three beers will feature the artwork of Jermaine Rogers, who has worked with David Bowie, the Beastie Boys and Radiohead, to name a few.
The duo’s hit song, “Legend Has It,” was featured in the trailer for the blockbuster Marvel Comics film,Black Panther.
A launch party is planned for April at the JWB taproom.
