Guitars Over Guns, Miami’s innovative, high-impact music mentorship program for at-risk youth, presents an epic evening of music and fun in the name of our community’s future young leaders. Sponsored by the Miami Marlins, the event will feature Guitars Over Guns’ incredibly talented students and mentors paying tribute to 1960s Soul and R&B classics such as “Ain’t No Mountain” and “My Girl,” with special guest performances from Jim Berry of CBS4, drumming legend David Frangioni, and Andrew DeMuro of NBC’s The Voice. Opening remarks will be provided by Miami-Dade County Public Schools Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho. Featured awardees of the night, Brittney Arroyo and Sierra Shaw, will be recognized as alumni of the program and leaders in the community.
Guests will enjoy delicious food from SuViche and Novecento, along with beverages courtesy of Russian Standard Vodka and Wynwood Brewery, while perusing an extensive silent auction featuring a 4-night stay at the Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.
This event celebrates the important role that Guitars Over Guns’ arts-based mentoring programs play in keeping Miami’s young people inspired, engaged, and prepared for success both in the classroom and beyond. Young people living in Miami’s underserved communities need positive alternatives to the dangerous influences that dominate their environments. Cuts in funding for the arts and afterschool programs mean our students have fewer opportunities than ever. Guitars Over Guns serves Miami’s at-risk youth through a unique combination of music education and mentorship that has been transforming our community for the past 8 years.
This 4th edition of the Choose Your Sound Benefit Concert is generously sponsored by the Miami Marlins, the Knight Foundation Fund at The Miami Foundation, theAOinsight Group, the Love Like RT Foundation, and Royal Caribbean. All ticket sales and money raised will go toward expanding Guitars Over Guns’ programs to reach more of Miami’s most deserving students.
