Take a Deeper Look at Rollercoaster #Art

The themes in Aquiles Avalos’ works share the artist’s fascination with the complexity of human emotions and the juxtaposition between chaos and order. Born in Santiago, Chile in 1983, Aquiles moved to Salt Lake City, Utah in 2005 to attend college at Brigham Young University. Upon graduating with a B.S. in Sociology, he relocated to South Florida in 2015 where his artistic journey began. With no formal academic experience in the arts, he started to produce works at the age of 32 using primarily oil, acrylic, pastels and charcoal. “Ever since I was a child I had artistic talent but never actually explored it. My creativity literally erupted soon after I moved to Miami, and since then I haven’t stopped making art for a day. It has become my biggest passion” he says. Influenced and inspired by surrealist masters such as Francis Bacon, Roberto Matta, Georgia O’Keeffe, and others, his work abounds with emotional tones which reflect his interpretation of the vicissitudes and challenges faced by people in contemporary society. Work by Aquiles is interactive, not passive. Viewing his thought-provoking pieces may be a complex, yet simple venture, compelling the onlooker to take time deciphering its underlying meaning and immersing themselves into the unknown world of the subconscious.

“Tempestuous Journey: Recent Works”, is a solo show by Miami-based visual artist Aquiles Avalos, with an opening reception on Wednesday October 4th, 2017 from 7 – 10 pm.

Aquiles Avalos sets a mood and environment that transports you into movements of seeming chaos set in a world of tranquility. His dynamics pieces are transposed from his soul into the canvas with intense emotions, revealing his inner emotional turmoil.

Primarily in oil on canvas, Aquiles concentrates his energies on the abstract, spontaneously surfacing his inner reflection of the human experience. Through entangled multi- colored strokes that come and go in different directions, he expresses his feelings, emotions and thoughts which go far outside of his conscious awareness.

“Tempestuous Journey: Recent Works” runs through October 15, 2017.
