The first ever cycling studio dedicated to body positivity and self-love has made its home in Miami. SHMLS Cycling Studio, located within The House of Movement at 1900 Brickell Ave,will host a soft opening on May 3 and a grand opening on May 19. Local Miami influencer, Stephanie Shames, is the face behind the fitness movement that welcomes all shapes, bodies and fitness levels.
Shames pursued degrees in exercise science and health education at The George Washington University and Columbia University before launching #Shameless, a body positive movement fueled largely by her popularity on Instagram. Through SHMLS, she uses her platform as a fitness leader, health coach, and blogger to support her clients and followers in achieving a more positive relationship with their bodies. In 2015, Shames was recognized by Reebok and Well+Good as one of “America’s Most Inspiring Trainers”. Most recently, she was named a finalist in South Florida Business and Wealth’s “Up and Comer” awards.
At SHMLS Cycling Studio, there are no numbers or competition. The studio was born as a place to share stories and create inspiring sweat sessions that propel and motivate clients to reach goals in and outside of the studio. The 45-minute ride incorporates rhythm-based choreography meant to strengthen the upper body upper and core as well as cardio interval training to target strength and endurance. Classes are limited to 12 bikes, providing an intimate experience that makes it seem as though clients are receiving one-on-one coaching.
“SHMLS is not about a number on a scale, attaining a six pack, or burning calories. SHMLS is about how you can improve your confidence during class and how that feeling impacts your everyday life,” says Shames. “Working out helped me overcome my issues with body dysmorphia and eating disorder. I wanted to created a space to help others overcome anything and truly feel confident in their own skin.”
SHMLS Cycling Studio will host a soft opening May 3;the grand opening will take place on May 19. At the grand opening “house party,” guests will enjoy complimentary bites from Raw Juce and Zuuk Mediterranean Kitchen, a live DJ, giveaways provided by Lululemon, DoTerra Essential Oils, and free classes by SHMLS and The House of Movement.
