#MJBasel Salute art community a success

Miami Jewish Health celebrated MJBasel 2017, its third annual salute to Art Basel Miami Beach and the artistic community of which it is a part, on Dec. 4th. Acclaimed artists Michael Vasquez, Rey Jaffet, Enrique “Sero” Cruz, HOXXOH, Luis Valles, Tina Paul and Ken Treister joined a host of Miami Jewish Health artists, including nursing home residents, tenants, volunteers and staff, in a presentation of paintings, photography and sculpture.

One of the artists recognized at this year’s MJBasel, was MJH’s own Jorge Rodriguez who won this year’s MJ Basel Employee Photography Contest.  Every year MJH promotes the photography contest amongst its employees. Rodriguez captured this year’s theme “Miami,” in his winning photo “I just wanna see the light.”

In addition, over 200 artists and guests mingled at a reception where $5,000 in art was sold with $2,300 going to benefit Miami Jewish Health’s therapeutic art programs.

Miami Jewish Health, nestled between NE 2nd Avenue and North Miami Avenue in the Buena Vista neighborhood, has had the unique experience of becoming part of the city’s growing arts neighborhoods. Street art on the campus’ exterior walls by Jaffet, Cruz, Guzman and HOXXOH will be part of the showcase.
