Art is officially rolling in to the world’s biggest hip-hop festival this weekend. Rolling Loud founder Matt Zingler and Marcel Katz of The Art Plug have teamed up to bring art to the massive 3-day music event for the first time.
The Art Plug Trap House is a 2,500-square-foot pop-up exhibit packed with artwork and installations by a lineup of 7 artists, who are transforming a portion of the festival into an interactive, insta-worthy exhibit with disruptive and REAL art. The seven featured artists include: Nychos, CB Hoyo, Zevi G, Somehoodlum, lefty OUT there and Shawn Kolodny.
“Music festivals are an opportunity for fans and artists to celebrate their passion for various forms of art, from music to visual installations,” said Katz who curated the pop-up exhibit. “It was important for Matt and I to implement visual art into this year’s festival and give emerging artists a larger platform to communicate their ideas and generate discussion.”
Nychos will be live painting his colorfully morbid murals on massive (11 foot) canvases throughout the weekend, along with artist CB Hoyo who will live paint canvases and furniture in an exhibit outfitted with giant neon signs flashing provoking messages. He’ll also be challenging patrons for the highest score on a multi-game arcade.
Festival-goers can snap selfies in front of a money wall covered in dozens of chrome and gold money bags by Zevi G, or literally step inside of a giant 8 foot pill bottle created by Shawn Kolodny. To pay homage to performers, SomeHoodlum created Migos-themed artwork including a “Migos Stir Fry” that will be on display.
